Terms of Service

Last updated 2026-10-04

1. Agreement to These Terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you ("you" or "User") and Charleston Apps LLC, a Kentucky limited liability company with its principal office at 212 N. 2nd St. Ste 100, Richmond, KY 40475 ("Charleston Apps," "we," "us," or "our"). They govern your access to and use of StoryLoom, including our website, our web application, and our iOS and Android apps (together, the "Service"). By creating an account, downloading the app, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. If you are a consumer outside the United States, Section 17 also applies to you.

These Terms incorporate by reference our Acceptable Use Policy, Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy, Refund & Cancellation Policy, and DMCA / Copyright Takedown Policy, each of which is available in the Service. If those documents conflict with these Terms, these Terms control, except that the Refund & Cancellation Policy controls on refunds and cancellation.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of legal majority in your jurisdiction if that is older than 18, to use the Service. The Service is intended for adults: it is not directed to, and we do not knowingly permit use by, anyone who does not meet this requirement, and there is no parental-consent pathway for a minor to use the Service. We will ask you to confirm your date of birth when you create an account, and may refuse, suspend, or terminate access if we are unable to verify eligibility or later learn that an account does not meet it.

3. Your Account

You need an account, including a confirmed date of birth, to create a story, and the same is true to read a story someone else has shared with you through a link -- both require an account. You are responsible for the accuracy of your account information and for all activity under your account, and must notify us promptly of any unauthorized use. Keep your sign-in email account secure: anyone who can read your email can sign in as you.

4. The Service and How It Works

StoryLoom uses artificial intelligence — including third-party AI and text-to-speech vendors — to generate interactive audio stories from prompts and choices you provide. Generated content ("Output") is produced automatically, may be unpredictable or inaccurate, and may include mature or intense themes consistent with the story you're steering. Output is fictional and is not factual, medical, legal, financial, or other professional advice. Output is generated fresh for you, may be similar or identical to Output generated for other users, and is not reviewed by a person before you see it. We may change, add, or remove features, narration voices, supported languages, or the AI vendors we use at any time. If we discontinue a paid feature during a period you have already paid for, our Refund & Cancellation Policy governs any refund.

5. Ownership and License to Output

(a) Our IP. We and our licensors own all right, title, and interest in the Service, including the underlying software, models, narration voices, and the StoryLoom name and marks.

(b) Your Output. As between you and us, and subject to (c)–(e) below, you own the story text and narration generated in response to your own prompts and choices ("Output"). We make no promise that Output is protected by copyright or any other intellectual-property law, and "own" here means only that we make no ownership claim against you.

(c) License you grant us. You grant Charleston Apps a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable license to host, store, reproduce, and process your Output to operate, provide, and improve the Service — and, only if and to the extent you use a public sharing feature, to publicly display, distribute, and create derivative excerpts (e.g., previews, thumbnails) of the shared Output.

(d) How you may use Output. Subject to these Terms and our Acceptable Use Policy, you may use, save, and share your Output for your own personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not sell Output, use it in a commercial product or service, or use the narration audio outside the Service for any commercial purpose, unless we separately offer a commercial-use option and you purchase it. If you publish or share your Output outside the Service — for example, on your own website, blog, or social media — you agree to credit StoryLoom as the story's origin (for example, "Created with StoryLoom") in a way that's reasonably visible alongside the Output. This attribution requirement does not apply to sharing through the Service's own in-app sharing feature described in Section 8, which we already control and label as StoryLoom content.

(e) Third-party rights and removal. Output is generated by AI and may unintentionally resemble existing works. We do not represent that Output is free of third-party intellectual-property claims. We may remove or restrict access to Output that we believe infringes another party's rights, violates our Acceptable Use Policy, or is the subject of a valid notice under our DMCA / Copyright Takedown Policy.

(f) Feedback. Any feedback you give us about the Service may be used by us without restriction or compensation to you.

6. Data You Submit; Age Certification

By using the Service, you represent that you meet the eligibility requirement in Section 2. You may not submit another real, identifiable person's personal information into a prompt without that person's consent — see our Acceptable Use Policy for the full list of what that covers. As a backstop to the age requirement in Section 2, we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13 in a way that would trigger the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act ("COPPA"); if we learn we have done so, we will take steps to delete the account and associated information. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle personal data generally.

7. Prohibited Conduct

You may not attempt "prompt injection," jailbreaking, or other techniques designed to bypass the Service's safety systems, or use the Service to generate or share content prohibited by our Acceptable Use Policy, which is part of these Terms.

8. Content Moderation and Reporting (Shared Stories)

If StoryLoom offers a feature to share Output publicly or with other users, we provide: (a) an in-app way to report Output or a user for violating these Terms or our Acceptable Use Policy; (b) the ability to deactivate a reported shared link, and to suspend or terminate the account that created it — which deactivates every link that account has shared, not only the reported one; and (c) published contact information at support@charlestonapps.com. StoryLoom shares stories as unlisted links rather than in-app messaging, so there is no in-app "block another user" feature — see our Acceptable Use Policy for why, and for the full reporting process. We use automated filters that may decline to generate or block a prompt or Output, and people review reports and decide on suspensions. We aim to review reports promptly and may remove content or suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, with or without notice. Where the law requires it, we will tell you what action we took and why, and you may appeal that decision — a story's takedown, or your account's suspension — in the app, or by emailing the address above; a suspended account that can no longer sign in is still given a way to submit and check on that appeal. See Section 13 for termination.

9. Subscriptions, Credits, and Payments

(a) How paid access works. Beyond the free tier, the Service is available two ways, which can be used together: a recurring subscription, which includes a set number of full-length stories per billing period under the plan you choose, and one-time story credits, purchased individually and usable whether or not you also have a subscription. The current subscription plans, their story allowances, and current credit pricing are shown at storyloomai.app/pricing and, for purchases made in the app, on the app's own purchase screen — those pages are the source of truth for what's on offer and at what price, not this document.

(b) Price at time of purchase. You pay the price displayed to you at checkout at the moment you subscribe, renew, or buy credits. We may change subscription prices, credit prices, or the story allowance included in a subscription tier from time to time; see our Refund & Cancellation Policy for the advance notice we give before a price change takes effect on a subscription you're already on.

(c) What a subscription story or a credit buys. The free tier is offered at no cost, produces short-form stories only, and always includes narration; it does not include full-length stories. The free tier provides 2 short stories a month, up to 6 in total over the life of an account — once an account has used all 6, continuing past the free tier requires a subscription or a story credit, and any month's unused allowance does not add to that total. A full-length story draws from either your subscription's included story allowance or a spent story credit — regardless of which of those two you use, it's the same underlying story.

How narration is charged for a full-length story. If you have it narrated from the start, that story draws one full story allowance or credit. If you choose not to have it narrated, it draws only half. If you later decide to have that same story narrated after all, we charge the other half at that point — we'll always show you the price and ask you to confirm before charging it; nothing is ever charged automatically. If we take a story down, or stop it before it's finished, whatever was charged for it — including a half-charge — is returned to your balance. If someone you've shared a story with chooses to have it narrated, that costs neither of you anything; we cover it.

Our pricing page and the app may refer to a subscription's included story allowance as a "spool" and a short story's allowance as a "bobbin" — those are just names for the allowances described in this section and in (a) above, and don't change how they work.

(d) How we draw down your balance. If you have both an active subscription and purchased story credits at the same time, we track them separately and spend whichever is closest to expiring first. Story allowance included with a subscription lapses at the end of the billing period it was granted for and does not carry over. Story credits you purchase separately expire one year after purchase — see our Refund & Cancellation Policy for the separate, shorter window to get an unspent credit refunded. Whether a story draws from your subscription's allowance or spends a purchased credit, it counts at the same point: once its second chapter has fully generated — text, or text and narration together, depending on the story. Starting a story, or reading only its first chapter, never counts against your allowance or spends a credit.

(e) One entitlement, any purchase channel. Your subscription and any story credits belong to your account, not to the store or payment method you used to buy them. You can subscribe or purchase credits on our website, in the iOS app, or in the Android app, and use what you've purchased across all of them — access is never limited to the channel where you originally paid.

(f) Pricing may differ by where you buy. Because Apple and Google charge their own commission on purchases made through their app stores, the price for the same subscription or credit may be lower on our website than in the iOS or Android app; the applicable price is always shown to you wherever you're purchasing before you're charged. See our Refund & Cancellation Policy, Section 5, for more on buying through our website instead of in-app.

(g) Auto-renewal, cancellation, and refunds. Subscriptions purchased on our website renew automatically until canceled and can be canceled from your account settings; subscriptions purchased through Apple or Google are billed, renewed, and canceled through that store's own system, not by us. Canceling a subscription does not delete your account. Once a canceled subscription's paid period ends, your account reverts to the free tier described in (c) above, subject to that same lifetime limit — canceling does not reset how many of the 6 you've already used, and does not forfeit any you have left, but it does not restore any beyond it either. Nothing about cancellation forces you to delete your account. Any story credits you have — whether purchased separately or still remaining from your subscription — stay usable under the ordinary rules in (d) above; canceling your subscription does not shorten or forfeit them. Cancellation mechanics and refund eligibility for story credits are covered in full in our separate Refund & Cancellation Policy, which is part of these Terms — see that policy rather than this section for those details. See Section 13 for what happens if you delete your account entirely, which is a separate step from canceling a subscription.

(h) Taxes. Prices shown may or may not include applicable taxes depending on your location and purchase channel; where required, we or the applicable app store will collect tax in addition to the displayed price.

10. App Store Terms (Apple and Google)

If you obtained the app through Apple's App Store or Google Play, the following additional terms apply, and — for Apple — satisfy the required minimum terms of our end-user license agreement under the Apple Developer Program License Agreement:

(a) This agreement is between you and Charleston Apps only, not with Apple Inc. or Google LLC, and Charleston Apps — not Apple or Google — is solely responsible for the app and its content.

(b) The license granted to you is limited to a non-transferable license to use the app on an Apple-branded product or Android device that you own or control, as permitted by the applicable app store's usage rules (including, for Apple, the Usage Rules in the App Store Terms of Service).

(c) Charleston Apps, not Apple or Google, is solely responsible for providing any maintenance and support for the app to the extent required by these Terms; Apple and Google have no obligation to furnish any maintenance or support.

(d) In the event of any failure of the app to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple or Google, who may refund the purchase price (if any) for the app; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple and Google have no other warranty obligation, and any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs, or expenses attributable to a failure to conform to a warranty are Charleston Apps' sole responsibility.

(e) Charleston Apps, not Apple or Google, is responsible for addressing any claims by you or a third party relating to the app, including product-liability claims, claims that the app fails to conform to legal or regulatory requirements, and claims arising under consumer protection or similar law.

(f) In the event of a third-party claim that the app, or your possession and use of it, infringes that party's intellectual-property rights, Charleston Apps — not Apple or Google — is solely responsible for the investigation, defense, settlement, and discharge of any such claim.

(g) You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated by the U.S. Government as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

(h) You must comply with applicable third-party terms when using the app (for example, your wireless data service agreement).

(i) Apple, Google, and their subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms as they relate to your use of the app, and each has the right (and is deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary. This does not limit Charleston Apps' own rights against you, and nothing in this Section expands any dispute-resolution obligation of Apple or Google — Section 14 governs disputes between you and Charleston Apps only.

(j) Charleston Apps' contact information for support questions: support@charlestonapps.com.

11. Disclaimers

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SERVICE AND ALL OUTPUT ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT OUTPUT WILL BE ACCURATE OR SUITABLE FOR ANY PURPOSE. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY RELIANCE YOU PLACE ON OUTPUT. Some states and countries do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties or statutory guarantees, so parts of this Section may not apply to you; see Section 17 if you are a consumer outside the United States.

12. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, CHARLESTON APPS AND ITS MEMBERS, MANAGERS, EMPLOYEES, CONTRACTORS, LICENSORS, AND SERVICE PROVIDERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS, THE SERVICE, OR ANY OUTPUT, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN TOLD SUCH DAMAGES ARE POSSIBLE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE, OR (B) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (US$100).

These limitations do not apply to liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for our gross negligence or willful misconduct. Some states and countries do not allow some of these limitations, so they may not all apply to you; if you are a consumer outside the United States, see Section 17. The limitations in this Section apply to every kind of claim, whether in contract, tort, or otherwise, and they are a basic part of the bargain between you and Charleston Apps.

13. Suspension and Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without cause or notice, including for violating these Terms or our Acceptable Use Policy. If we terminate your account without cause while you have an active subscription you bought from us, we will refund the unused portion of the current billing period; Apple and Google handle any refund for subscriptions bought through them. You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. When you delete your account, we hold it in a recoverable state for 5 days before deletion becomes permanent, so a deletion you didn't mean to make can still be undone; you can contact support@charlestonapps.com during that window to restore it. Once the 5 days pass and deletion is finalized, it's final — that includes any subscription, story credits, and purchase or billing history tied to the account, which we can no longer restore, act on, or refund once the underlying account and its records are gone. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including Sections 5, 11, 12, 14, 16, and 17) will survive.

14. Dispute Resolution; Binding Arbitration; Class Action Waiver

PLEASE READ THIS SECTION CAREFULLY. IT AFFECTS YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS, INCLUDING YOUR RIGHT TO FILE A LAWSUIT IN COURT.

(a) Agreement to arbitrate. You and Charleston Apps agree that any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be resolved by binding, individual arbitration under the Federal Arbitration Act, administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, rather than in court — except as set out below.

(b) Exceptions. Either party may bring an individual action in small-claims court, and either party may seek injunctive or other equitable relief in court to prevent actual or threatened infringement, misappropriation, or violation of intellectual-property rights. Nothing in this Section prevents either party from reporting a matter to a government agency, or from taking part in an investigation by one.

(c) Class action waiver. You and Charleston Apps may bring claims against each other only in an individual capacity, and not as a plaintiff or class member in any purported class, consolidated, or representative proceeding. The arbitrator may not consolidate claims of different people or preside over any class or representative proceeding. If a court decides that this waiver is unenforceable as to a particular claim or request for relief, then that claim or request (and only that one) will be severed and heard in a court described in (e) below, and the rest of the dispute will still be arbitrated.

(d) Opt-out. You may opt out of this arbitration agreement within 30 days of first agreeing to these Terms by emailing support@charlestonapps.com with your name and a clear statement that you want to opt out of arbitration. If you opt out, neither you nor Charleston Apps is bound by this Section's arbitration or class-waiver provisions, but the rest of these Terms remain in effect.

(e) Governing law and venue. These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, except that the Federal Arbitration Act governs this Section 14. For any dispute not subject to arbitration, you and Charleston Apps consent to the exclusive jurisdiction and venue of the state or federal courts located in Madison County, Kentucky. If you are a consumer outside the United States, the mandatory consumer-protection law of the country where you live also applies, and you may bring claims in the courts of that country; see Section 17.

(f) How the arbitration works. The arbitration will be conducted in English by a single arbitrator. Any hearing will be held by video conference unless you and we agree otherwise or the arbitrator decides an in-person hearing is needed, in which case it will be held in the county where you live. The AAA's Consumer Arbitration Rules govern arbitration fees; we will pay all AAA filing, administrative, and arbitrator fees beyond the portion those rules assign to you, unless the arbitrator finds your claim was frivolous. The arbitrator can award the same relief a court could award to you individually, must follow this Section and applicable law, and must give a short written explanation of the award. Judgment on the award may be entered in any court with jurisdiction. If the AAA is unable or unwilling to administer the arbitration, you and we will agree on a substitute administrator, and if we cannot agree, a court described in (e) above will appoint one.

(g) Coordinated filings. If 25 or more similar arbitration demands are filed against us by or with the help of the same law firm or coordinated group, the AAA's Mass Arbitration Supplementary Rules will apply. The demands will be processed in batches of no more than 25, one batch at a time, and any statute of limitations will be paused for demands waiting for a later batch.

(h) Public injunctive relief. If the law where you live allows you to seek public injunctive relief (relief that primarily benefits the general public rather than you) and does not allow that request to be arbitrated, you may seek that relief in a court described in (e) above. Any such request will be stayed until the arbitration of your individual claims is finished, and the arbitrator's findings of fact will be binding in that court proceeding to the extent the law allows.

(i) Who decides what. The arbitrator, not a court, decides all disputes about the interpretation, applicability, or enforceability of this Section 14, including whether a claim is arbitrable, except that a court decides any dispute about the class action waiver in (c) and the availability of public injunctive relief in (h). This Section 14 survives termination of these Terms or your account.

15. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will give you at least 30 days' notice before they take effect, by email or a notice in the Service, and we will update the "Last updated" date. Changes required by law or that only add a new feature may take effect sooner. If you do not agree to a change, stop using the Service before it takes effect and, if you have a paid subscription, cancel it; Section 17 gives consumers outside the United States a refund right in that situation. Continued use of the Service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.

16. Indemnification

To the extent permitted by the law where you live, you will defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Charleston Apps and its members, managers, employees, and contractors from any claim by a third party, and the related damages, costs, and reasonable attorneys' fees, arising from your breach of these Terms or our Acceptable Use Policy, the prompts you submit, or your use or sharing of Output outside the Service. We will notify you promptly of any such claim and may take over its defense at our own expense, in which case you will cooperate with us. This Section does not apply to consumers in the European Union, European Economic Area, or United Kingdom except to the extent your local law allows.

17. Users Outside the United States

(a) Language and local law. The Service is offered from the United States in English. If we make a translation of these Terms or our other policies available, it is for convenience only, and the English version controls if they conflict. You are responsible for complying with the laws that apply to you where you use the Service, and you may not use the Service where doing so is illegal.

(b) Consumers in the EU, EEA, UK, and similar jurisdictions. If you are a consumer living in the European Union, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another country whose law gives consumers rights that a contract cannot take away, then: (1) nothing in these Terms limits those rights, and where they conflict with these Terms, they win; (2) the arbitration agreement and class action waiver in Section 14 do not apply to you unless you agree to arbitrate after a dispute arises, and you may bring claims against us in the courts of the country where you live under that country's consumer law; (3) the disclaimers in Section 11 and the limits in Section 12 apply only to the extent your country's law allows, and nothing in them excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for a failure to supply digital content or a digital service that conforms with your statutory rights; (4) you have a 14-day right to cancel a purchase, as described in our Refund & Cancellation Policy; and (5) if we make a material change to these Terms that is not required by law, you may end your subscription before the change takes effect and receive a refund of the unused portion of the period you have paid for.

(c) Privacy and data transfers. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information for users outside the United States, including transfers of your information to the United States and the rights you have under the laws of the EU, UK, and other countries.

(d) Sanctions and export laws. You may not use the Service if you are located in a country or territory subject to comprehensive U.S. sanctions, or if you are listed on a U.S. or EU sanctions or restricted-party list.

18. Miscellaneous

These Terms, together with the policies incorporated in Section 1, are the entire agreement between you and Charleston Apps regarding the Service. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remain in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. We may assign these Terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets; you may not assign them without our consent. Except as stated in Section 10, there are no third-party beneficiaries of these Terms. Section headings are for convenience only. We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control, including outages at the third-party vendors we rely on to generate Output.
